Yesterday a ceremonial event was held by the Defence Forces to mark the centenary of the handover of Beggars Bush Barracks from the British authorities to the Irish Provisional Government on 31 January and 1 February 1922. Church service was held at 1600. The Battalion moved to a position 500 yards north-east of Velu Wood at 0820. A and C Companies, each counter attack and passive resistance. At 0530 hostile artillery shelled the Battalion on our left, apparently in retaliation for the raid. C Company was moved up and relieved B Company. Training under Company arrangements in the forenoon and Colonel Kelly addressed the Battalion, congratulating it on the recent success. A and B Companies carried out scale of parades.
